WHY “PAINTING PANDAS”
The story behind our name is as colorful as our project itself.
As a young girl growing up with minimal means, Founder and President Jill Turner longed for a hook rug kit, which was so popular at the time. She and her family couldn’t afford a new one though, so the resourceful young Jill cut various pieces of yarn, a piece of burlap, drew a panda on it, and stitched away. She still has that piece of art today and says she chose a panda because they are fun and friendly.
This began her love of art and she’s still a big proponent of using minimal supplies if and when need be. She also recognizes that kids love pandas and hopes that by providing them with supplies to paint them; they will look back and cherish their works of art as much as she did.
